What is Open Source?

There is a large movement of technical and creative programmers today that use their considerable skills in developing software solutions and then make them available totally free of charge. Teams of enthusiastic "problem solvers" spread across the planet, work together in large and small co-ordinated projects. The considerable achievements attained by the Open Source movement in producing highly sophisticated solutions is due in part to the fact that many are also involved at high levels in commercial endeavours and in part due to the large numbers of technically trained contributors.
